year New York State revised the tests to be aligned with Common Core standards.
The Common Core is a set of national learning standards that increase the rigor
of what students are expected to learn at each grade level. The standards
ultimately leave students better prepared for college. Because this is the
first year the tests have been changed to meet these standards, this year’s
state tests were more difficult than ever before. Test scores for students
across New York City and State dropped considerably from the last year as a
result of the new standards being tested. While we experienced a drop in scores we are also encouraged by them. Our overall Math and ELA scores outperformed the district, city and state. These results are thanks to teachers, parents and students' hard work and dedication to learning.
